AEO · evidence and practical implementation
Answer Engine Optimization: useful answers built on sound SEO
AEO is work on the information people use when researching through answer engines. It combines useful, verifiable answers with ordinary search accessibility; it does not give a business control over an AI platform’s recommendations.
Start with a decision your customer actually needs to make
A customer asking whether a maintenance agreement covers an emergency visit needs conditions, exclusions and a route to a real answer. A paragraph saying “we put customers first” cannot resolve that decision. Inventory the questions from sales and support, then identify the existing service or product page that should answer each one. Better information on one useful page can be worth more than a collection of new acronym pages.
Separate the four events
A brand mention is the appearance of a business name. A citation is a source reference, often linked to a particular URL. A referral is a visit following a link. A qualified enquiry is a contact that meets your business criteria. Any one can happen without the others. A name inside an answer is not necessarily an endorsement, and a crawler request does not establish that the page was cited.
SEO, AEO and GEO belong in one plan
SEO covers discoverability and relevance in search. AEO and GEO are overlapping industry labels for work on visibility in generated answers. For Google’s AI experiences, the normal Search foundations remain relevant. Use the labels to explain the work and the surface you observe, rather than purchasing three competing content strategies. Agent readiness adds another question: can an authorised visitor or agent understand and safely complete the intended action?
A practical first-page exercise
Choose a commercially important question. Save the current answer and ask a colleague unfamiliar with the service to explain who it suits, what it excludes and what happens next. Record misunderstandings. Obtain the approved facts from the responsible specialist, add a concrete example and test again. The acceptance condition is an accurate, understandable answer and a working next step—not a promised ChatGPT placement.
An illustrative Danish service example
A hypothetical ventilation company might explain that a first inspection needs the installation model, building type and description of the fault. It should distinguish inspection from replacement parts and emergency attendance. The useful contribution is this operational detail, approved by the company, rather than repeating “ventilation service” in every heading. This example is not a Gavek customer or an offer of that service.
Choose the right next step
Use the knowledge hub to investigate mechanics, research, technical access or measurement. If your team needs help delivering changes, agree the page group, languages, evidence inputs, implementation responsibilities and review method before commissioning an engagement. No fixed number of articles, prompt observations or weeks can guarantee inclusion in a platform’s answers.
