Make business identity clear across pages and structured data
Entity consistency means describing the same real business coherently wherever customers encounter it. Begin with approved facts and verifiable sources; adding technical labels cannot repair contradictory service, ownership or location information.
Agree which identity each page describes
Separate the legal company, trading brand, product and physical branch. Record the relationship rather than giving them interchangeable names. Decide the canonical business website and approved public profiles. A former business at the same address should not silently supply reviews, credentials or service history for a new offer. Maintain evidence for any certifications or professional claims.
Align the visible record before adding markup
Check the homepage, about page, contact details, service descriptions and relevant third-party profiles for conflicting facts. Then describe the appropriate organisation in structured data using properties that match the visible, verified information. References to genuine controlled profiles can help identify the business; linking to unrelated prestigious sites does not make them part of its identity.
Treat search presentation as an external outcome
Validate markup syntax and inspect the public pages after deployment. Search engines determine whether and how to show enhanced business information. A knowledge panel is not purchased by adding a schema field, and a consistent record does not guarantee AI recommendation. Assign an owner to review changes when the company moves, rebrands or changes its offer.
Illustrative scenario
A consultancy uses a legal company name in invoices and a shorter public brand. Its identity register explains that relationship and uses the same service description across the website and approved profiles. It does not borrow the history of an unrelated company with a similar name.
