Example playbook — not a customer case
An agency with several client projects
A practical scenario showing how to organise the work. No named customer, measured result or guaranteed uplift is claimed.
The starting challenge
Different systems measure different things. Search Console records search interactions; website analytics describes measured visits and events; a CRM records commercial stages. Their totals may differ because of scope, consent, attribution, time zones, and processing. Reconciliation starts with definitions.
A sensible first work cycle
- Agree the decision the report supports and define success before collecting charts. Choose a small set of customer and business outcomes, then identify the visibility and technical indicators that help explain them.
- Document each source, date range, timezone, filter, and comparison period. Separate branded from non-branded queries when useful and keep new tracking implementations visible as measurement changes, not automatic growth.
- Explain results by relevant segment, such as topic, page type, device, country, or customer group. Add a change log for releases and campaigns. Distinguish correlation from evidence that an intervention caused an outcome.
- For ROI, use agreed incremental value and full relevant costs. Label assumptions about lead value, close rate, margin, attribution, and timing. Present a range where uncertainty is material, and end with an owner, action, and review date.
Evidence to review before scaling
- Relevant search clicks and impressions
- Qualified measured actions and opportunities
- Incremental value against documented costs and assumptions
What would make the plan change?
A discovery issue, a mismatch between search intent and the page, unreliable measurement or an implementation dependency can change the order of work. Keep a record of assumptions, verify each change and agree on a review point before extending the scope.
Use this as a planning example. A real engagement needs your website, market, data and an agreed scope.
