Search competitors are the pages that meet the same customer need, which may differ from the businesses you usually sell against. Keep the investigation focused on one commercially relevant question instead of trying to copy a larger rival’s entire website.
Choose a comparable search situation
Record the query, language, location, device and date. Review the actual result types: a local service, catalogue, guide or marketplace may serve different needs. Select a small set of comparable pages and explain why each belongs in the review.
Find the unanswered decision
Compare concrete information such as eligibility, specification, price explanation, delivery conditions or evidence of experience. Note what a customer still cannot decide. A competitor’s long article or large link count does not establish that reproducing it will help your own audience.
Turn findings into an original brief
Write the useful answer your business can support, identify a factual expert and choose the appropriate page. Distinguish a confirmed gap from an estimate about competitor traffic. Gavek does not currently provide proprietary competitor traffic or backlink data; external datasets require their own coverage review.
Put the method to work
Illustrative research: a local installer finds that search results explain products but not building-access requirements. The business creates a verified preparation checklist on its existing service page. It uses its own field knowledge instead of rewriting the strongest competitor’s guide.
Your next steps
- Fix the search context.
- Select comparable page types.
- Record unanswered customer decisions.
- Assign an original evidence-based brief.
Questions & answers
Should I copy the page that ranks first?
No. Identify the need it serves and build an independently useful answer using your own evidence.
Can I prove a rival’s sales from an SEO estimate?
No. Estimated visibility or traffic does not reveal verified conversions or revenue.
