Design an SEO team leaderboard that rewards useful work

Design an SEO team leaderboard around accepted work, fair comparisons and collaboration, while checking incentives that could weaken quality.

Original guide · English & Danish

A leaderboard changes behaviour, so choose its rules carefully. Rewarding published pages or acquired links alone can encourage work with little value. This is a team-design guide; Gavek does not currently provide a public competition or customer ranking.

Score accepted outcomes

Give credit for an agreed task that passes review: repairing a broken journey, documenting a test or improving an answer with reliable evidence. Specify the acceptance check before work starts. Counting unchecked completions makes the board easy to game and weakens trust in the programme.

Account for unequal opportunities

A developer handling one difficult migration should not automatically lose to someone editing many short descriptions. Compare similar work, recognise collaborative effort and include a way to challenge a score. Avoid public exposure of individual performance without an appropriate internal agreement.

Review unintended incentives

Check whether the rules create shortcuts, duplicate articles or unnecessary outreach. Replace competitive points with a shared milestone where collaboration matters more. Keep business measures separate: finishing an approved task is observable, but a later ranking change cannot always be attributed to one person.

Put the method to work

Illustrative example

Illustrative board: a small team earns credit after a reviewer confirms that a broken enquiry path works again. The developer and tester share recognition. A batch of draft articles receives no credit until factual and editorial checks pass.

Your next steps

  1. Define a quality acceptance rule.
  2. Compare similar task types.
  3. Recognise shared delivery.
  4. Review the rules after one cycle.

Questions & answers

Should rankings determine individual scores?

Usually not. External competition and measurement variability make them unsuitable as a simple individual performance score.

Does Gavek offer a leaderboard?

No public or account-based leaderboard is currently included. Use this framework in your own team process.
