Policies & working methods

Publish environmental commitments with verifiable evidence

Make environmental project pages specific about ownership, dates, measurements and uncertainty instead of borrowing another organisation's achievements.

Original guide · English & Danish

An environmental story should describe an action readers can verify. A photograph of trees does not establish ownership, carbon impact or a lasting commitment. This page provides an editorial evidence framework. Gavek is not claiming to own a forest, fund a planting project or offset its operations.

Describe the action precisely

Name the activity, place, date and responsible organisation when those facts are verified and publishable. Distinguish funding from ownership and planting from long-term maintenance. State the scale in a meaningful unit and explain whether work is completed, planned or dependent on a third party.

Document the measurement boundary

Explain what was measured, who measured it and which assumptions remain. Avoid turning a broad environmental intention into an unsupported numerical benefit. Keep the project description separate from claims about the whole business or product, particularly where no complete assessment has been performed.

Make follow-up possible

Provide dated updates, useful evidence links and a way to correct information. Explain delays or changed responsibilities plainly. A modest project can be described honestly without claiming environmental leadership. Where specialist assessment is necessary, commission it before publishing conclusions that go beyond the evidence.

Put the method to work

Illustrative example

Illustrative page: a company sponsors maintenance of a local habitat. It describes the contribution, the project operator and the reporting period, but makes no claim to cancel the company's emissions. The example shows bounded communication rather than an actual Gavek initiative.

Your next steps

  1. Verify ownership and the responsible operator
  2. Separate completed work from future intention
  3. State measurement methods and unknowns
  4. Schedule dated updates and correction reviews

Questions & answers

Can images prove environmental impact?

No. Images may document an activity, but impact claims require appropriate evidence and a clear explanation of what the evidence supports.

Is this Gavek's sustainability report?

No. It is guidance on publishing substantiated project information. No environmental project or certified impact is asserted here.
