# Programmatic SEO: decide what deserves a publishing pilot

Assess reader needs, data and templates. Plan a programmatic SEO pilot with acceptance checks and stop conditions.

Programmatic SEO uses a repeatable template and structured information to publish related pages. The difficult decision is whether each page helps someone complete a distinct task. Before discussing hundreds of URLs, prepare a small pilot brief that explains the audience, the evidence and the maintenance work. A decision not to scale can be a useful result.

## Start with a decision that varies meaningfully

Describe the question each proposed page answers. A product compatibility page may need different specifications, restrictions and alternatives for each model. A list of nearly identical city pages may offer no additional help. Compare the proposed result with the pages you already have: would one clear category or comparison page serve the visitor better?

Write a one-sentence purpose for the page family and name the fields that change the answer. If removing a location or keyword leaves the advice unchanged, investigate whether you are creating redundant entry points. Google's doorway and scaled-content policies make usefulness central; automated production is not permission to multiply shallow pages.

## Check whether the information can support the promise

Create a data dictionary with each field's meaning, source, responsible owner and update requirement. Distinguish verified facts from estimates and optional descriptions. Include rules for missing, contradictory and out-of-date values. The template must not invent specifications or imply a service is available in a place simply because the dataset contains its name.

Select pilot records that expose difficult cases, not just the most complete examples. Include a sparse record, an unavailable item, an unusual combination and a record that recently changed. Decide what should happen before publication when required information is absent: improve the source, combine the page with a stronger resource or exclude it from the launch.

## Review the template as a customer journey

Assess whether a visitor can understand the evidence, compare relevant options and reach a suitable next step. Review headings, explanatory text, links and mobile presentation together. Repeated navigation is expected; repeated unsupported claims are not. Do not add generic paragraphs merely to reach a supposed SEO word count.

Prepare an acceptance sheet for the actual generated pages. Check intended URLs, response codes, titles, canonical choices and internal links. Inspect representative published pages using available Search Console evidence where authorised. A technically indexable page is not a promise of indexing or rankings, so keep technical acceptance separate from search performance.

## Agree how the pilot can expand, change or stop

Assign an owner, review date and maintenance budget. Record publication decisions, source changes and reported problems. Assess whether pages answer their intended questions and whether the team can maintain the information. Consider business actions and useful feedback alongside search observations.

Expand after a documented review, rather than to meet a page-count target. Resolve repeated errors before another release. If pages serve the same purpose, consider combining their information with an appropriate URL plan. Keep the existing site usable throughout the pilot.

## A handover checklist

- A distinct reader task is documented.

- Required data fields have sources and owners.

- Missing-data and unavailable-item cases are reviewed.

- Template, links and indexability checks have named reviewers.

- A maintenance plan and stop decision are agreed.

**Illustrative scenario**Hypothetical example: a parts supplier considers compatibility pages for machine models. The pilot includes one well-documented model and one with disputed specifications. The incomplete page is held back until the source is resolved. This tests the information process before a larger release; it is not a reported client result.

A few good questions

## Clarity before you commit.

[Ask Gavek](https://gavek.dk/contact/)

### Is programmatic SEO automatically spam?

No. Assess the purpose and usefulness of the output. Publishing many low-value pages mainly to manipulate visibility is different from helping readers with accurate, distinct information.

### Does Gavek provide a publishing platform here?

This guide supports a scoped review and planning discussion. It does not supply a publishing application, data feed or automatic website changes.

### How many pages should the pilot contain?

Choose a manageable sample covering important data and template edge cases. No fixed page count establishes quality or predicts search results.
