# Content, keywords and authority: ten editorial decisions

Choose useful page intent, expert evidence and responsible content and link-earning work.

Use these answers to prepare a decision, then open the linked detailed guide for implementation. The questions represent common buying situations; they are not a ranked search-demand list or a claim about actual Gavek customer interviews.

## Which keywords and customer questions should our company target if we want people who are likely to buy, rather than a large amount of irrelevant traffic?

Map the services you can deliver to customer problems and buying stages. Validate the language through available queries, enquiries and sales conversations, then assign each useful intent to a page. Search volume is only one input. Prioritise a topic when the audience fits, the page can answer the need and the business can support its claims and fulfil the enquiry.

## Should we improve our service pages first or publish more blog articles when our main goal is to generate enquiries for our services?

If a buyer cannot understand your offer or take the next step, improve the service page first. Guides have a different job: explain decisions, objections and investigations in greater depth. Link them to the relevant commercial destination when it helps the reader. Use the same intent map to avoid a blog post and service page competing to answer an identical need.

## Can an SEO company research and write detailed content for us, and how do we make sure it reflects our actual expertise rather than generic AI text?

Give the writer a source pack, not just keywords. Include the customer decision, verified product or service facts, expert notes, evidence and claims that require approval. A brief should name the reader, page purpose, reviewer and acceptance criteria. Interview an expert about a real decision or limitation; invented experience cannot be repaired by adding an author biography.

## We already have many articles but they attract little useful traffic. Should we update, combine, remove or keep them?

Inventory page purpose, accuracy, search and enquiry evidence, useful links and maintenance requirements. Keep a page that solves a distinct need; improve one with a clear gap; consolidate pages with the same intent when a better combined destination is justified. Do not remove content solely because it has low traffic without checking its role, links and customer value.

## Can AI help us write long answers to customer questions, and what human work is needed before those answers are ready for our website?

Use AI to assist structure or drafting from a verified fact sheet, then review every material claim, example and source. Check whether the draft adds something useful beyond existing pages. A pass means the reviewer can trace the claim and the reader gets an accurate answer; fluent wording with an invented reference fails. Human approval remains a publishing responsibility.

## How long should a service page or article be, and do question headings, summaries and FAQs make it easier for customers and AI search to understand?

Choose depth around the decision the page must support. A short answer may resolve a simple buying question, while a migration needs dependencies and checks. Use a table for genuine comparisons and an FAQ only for additional questions. Word count and formatting do not guarantee ranking or AI citation. Remove repeated material and link to a deeper guide when the reader needs it.

## What do backlinks actually contribute, and how can I tell whether an agency is earning useful references or selling risky link packages?

Ask why the proposed reference would be useful to its actual audience and how it will be obtained. Review relevance, editorial context and the asset being cited, rather than accepting a metric or quantity as proof. Avoid arrangements designed to manipulate rankings. A credible scope explains research, outreach, approval and reporting, without promising that every approach earns a link.

## Can a small business earn credible links and mentions without buying hundreds of backlinks or publishing the same guest article everywhere?

Start with information or work someone has a genuine reason to reference: original expertise, useful explanations, legitimate partnerships or documented community participation. Match the asset to a specific audience before contacting a publisher. Record the evidence, permission and purpose behind each opportunity. Purchased visibility and earned editorial references should be described separately; neither justifies inventing partnerships or endorsements.

## Our website has several pages about similar services. How do we know whether they support each other or compete for the same customer need?

Compare the intended audience, decision, offer and actual search queries for both pages. Similar vocabulary does not automatically mean harmful overlap. If the pages serve the same need, choose a stronger destination and plan content consolidation, links and any appropriate redirect. Preserve genuinely different service or educational purposes instead of merging everything that mentions the same keyword.

## Should we publish comparisons, alternatives and best-provider guides, and how can we make them useful without pretending our own company is independently ranked first?

State the commercial viewpoint, selection criteria and the date of verification. Compare equivalent scope and separate observed facts from editorial judgement. Link precise competitor claims to their current source and avoid unsupported “best” labels. When prices or features cannot be verified, explain the decision criteria without filling the gap with guesses. Include circumstances where another option may suit the buyer.

## Put the decision into a brief

Copy this worksheet into your project notes. Add the evidence URL or document, a named owner and a review date for each applicable row. An empty field identifies work to investigate; it is not permission to invent a claim.
